Dear Silly: Do you know how to build a nuclear submarine?
Hi everyone!
A couple weeks ago while on his way out the door, my husband stopped, looked at me
and said, "You need to get out more often." This was a ploy to get me to go with
him and I wanted to do just that but circumstances didn't permit it.
The middle of last week rolled around (yes, I'm inside that much) and hubby urgently
needed me to run an errand for him at the bank. The needed transaction had to be done
inside so I went into this large building. There weren't many people there at the time,
consequently, there were only three tellers on duty; one was located at the end of the
aisle where I was walking, and the other two were on the other side of the building.
Each tellers was busy with a customer. There was also a group of three people standing
beside the counter near the customer at the teller nearest me. I couldn't tell if they
were in line or not so I stopped far enough away to not only give the customer some
privacy, but to also let these people have their spot if they were in fact in line.
When I stopped the three people glanced my direction then looked away. Almost
immediately one did a double-take then quickly looked away. Another took a second
look then went back to looking at one of the people he was with. Everyone in this
trio kept looking at me then would look back and continue their conversation.
I began to wonder if there was something wrong. Was there spinach between my teeth?
and if so, how would they know? My mouth was shut. I had almost decided it was simply
my imagination when one of them turned, looked me straight in the eye and said, "I
guess you're wondering why we're all staring at you, but you really don't look THAT bad."
O...K..., so they were staring. I chose to pretend I hadn't heard him. Luckily one
of the tellers on the other side of the room appeared to be finishing so I walked
down there for my transaction.
That evening when Autumn was home with his nose buried in his computer, I told him
about this incident. His response was almost a grunted, "Oh, really..." then
momentarily his head jerked up, he looked at me and asked, "What did you say?" I
repeated the story and he was as puzzled as I was. Why were they staring and why
would someone actually comment on it?
If you've been by Renae's Room at any time in the last 3 days you'll see that big
things are happening. There's a long story behind it and I won't bore you with the
details but it's been pretty plain that I've been unhappy with my host. So, early
last week I swallowed my reluctance and signed up with a new host. Without knowing
much about them I'll guarantee the service will be better. The banner ads that the
former host was placing across the page (over which I had no control) are no longer
there -- YES! That means you won't get bumped off onto my host's page because
loading all that advertising takes so long, then told Renae's Room doesn't exist.
This was a problem from the beginning and became really frustrating when I added my
own advertising. The pages will load faster, I'll be able to do things with this
new host the other didn't allow, and there's a lot more room - something I had run
out of.
So, big things are in the air. As I write this the transfer of the domain name has
been completed but I've had time to move only a little of Renae's Room over. Keep
watching and you can see the progress as it occurs.
If you've been using my links section over at Hotlinks you'll notice I've pulled
most of it off and locked what's left of it. The only thing available for use is a
link to Renae's Room. It's a long story and would probably be therapeutic for me to
tell you, but I won't. The links will all be transferred where you can use
them without being sent to another place. There are a large number of links so it
will take time. Just keep checking back.
The "Ask Dr. Guse" or "Dear Silly" section in Teacher's Pet has been completed,
transferred and is available for use. In fact, Silly's already had a few questions
sent to her. Stop by for her twisted bit of wit and maybe you or your students have
a question or two for her.
