Student: Sir, I have a complaint. I don't believe I deserve a zero on this exam.
Professor: Neither do I, but it's the lowest grade I can give.

Hi Everyone!

It's hard to imagine that another two weeks have passed. It seems only a few days ago I was busy typing the newsletter. It also seems that it wasn't that long ago our area was devestated by ice storms, yet this past week has been gorgeous. I've had the windows open and ejoying the fresh air most of the week and even Silly got in on the act. She persuaded me to dig out the harness and let her spend some time outside. Our house is on a very busy street and there are lots of dogs in the area so she's only allowed outside in the fenced-in backyard while wearing her harness and tied to the back porch. She doesn't seem to mind though. Anything further than five feet from the house is out of her territory and she gets nervous.

Surprised to hear that she's leash trained? All the material I've read said you couldn't leash train an older cat yet last summer we did just that. We began by pulling it out of the bag while she was watching, then tossing it onto the floor with all her other toys. It stayed there a few days and she was having fun with it. When she was good and used to it, I began pulling it across the floor for her to chase. She loved it. Then I began dragging it across her and from there wrapping it around her. The day finally came that I put it on her. This startled her and I pulled it right off. The next day we did it again - playtime followed by trying the thing on. Each time the harness would stay on a little longer. Eventually she didn't mind it and we began taking walks around the neighborhood. It took about six weeks before she was ready to go out.

The trick to keeping her interest, I found, was in the reward she received after each training session. She loves those "cookies" and would tolerate our daily walk. But those walks ended. It was embarrassing to me to have to stop a couple times on our walk when she would, without warning, squat in someone's yard.

It has been unusually active in Renae's Room the past two weeks. I've been watching the reports that Mindspring provides and I'll share with you that the average number of visitors every day is steadily growing. We're still small, but like I've pointed out before, I'm only one person who is relying on my husband to teach me HTML as I go. Last week I bought him a PERL/CGI book and he's promised to learn that so we can add even more things to the site. Anyway, the unusual activity I mentioned is simply that I felt tremendously hyped the past two weeks and channeled most of that energy into Renae's Room. Following is a list of what's happened.

New Section:
I've received some jokes relating to school and decided to post them in a seperate section called "Joaks." The above joke can be found in this new section. I encourage you to send your own school related jokes for possible publication.

Links:
The links section is not yet complete. There are still quite a few to be moved from my Hotlinks file as well as the long list still sitting on my desktop. After that I have all those odds-n-ends that people have sent to be added to the list. It's a big job and I feel good about what all that energy this past week helped me to accomplish. Following is a listing of changes in this area that are now available to you. The number beside it is how many links you will find in the file.

Fonts:
With my love of typography naturally I've added fonts this past two weeks. You're gonna have fun with some of these. (A quick explanation of Hollow and Partly Hollow: these fonts designs are easily printed on colored paper and then cut out. In the Partly Hollow, the letters themselves may not be hollow at all, but the font is designed in a way that it can easily be cut out after printing.) Look for a new font designer whose work will be added to the site in the next few days.
