The child comes home from his first day at school. Mother asks, "What
did you learn today?"
The kid replies, "Not enough. I have to
go back tomorrow."
Hi everyone:
Two more weeks have passed and it's been a strange two weeks, but
that's a story I won't bother you with. By now you've probably
heard that on Wednesday there was a sizable earthquake in Seattle,
WA. Funny how fast news travels. I heard about it all the way down
here in Arkansas BEFORE it hit the media. Actually, my preacher son
is out there for about 10 days doing some sort of revival. He
called me immediately with the news. He was so excited, I'm
wondering if he may have been slightly in shock. Thankfully, he
and the people he is staying with survived without any injury.
He has to make sure someone is available to cover for him at church
while he's away . There are people in the congregation who handle
most of it but he usually invites someone in to take care of the
sermon. We live only 3 hours from his church and he called on my
husband, who happens to be a gifted speaker, to cover for him this
past weekend.
In the past my husband has told me that he's going to start doing
all the driving and not let me do it any more. When questioned why
he said it's because I am talented at causing the car to break down.
He was teasing me (I think) but it seems to be true; and what has
this got to do with our three hour drive south? Nothing, at least
while he was driving. Abe drove until we were about halfway between
Texarkana and Atlanta, TX when I caught him nodding off behind the
wheel. He pulled over, we switched places, then he napped.
About ten to fifteen minutes into the nap I spotted a park and woke
him up. We had brought our lunch, but a check of the time told us
to keep moving. He asked how the car was handling and I told him
that it was "handling" just fine but I didn't like what the
speedometer was doing. He looked, and neither did he. For the rest
of the trip down, despite holding my speed at a steady pace, the
speedometer was jumping all over the place. According to it, that
car could accelerate over 40m.p.h. in less than a second. And,
according to the speedometer, it could also come to a stop from
50m.p.h. in less than a second.
Here's my question this week: Is anyone interested in buying a used
car with highly exceptional acceleration? The thrill alone from the
g-forces ought to make it worth, well...
I might also note that after church Abe drove all the way home. He's
such a drab driver, the speedometer said he stayed at the speed limit
all the way.

If you've visited Renae's Room recently you will have seen some
changes. The most obvious one is the new section noted by the
picture of a pencil. Here you'll find printable writing paper for
PreK-K students. These sheets have pictures on them for coloring.
There are twenty to choose from. Originally I had listed these as
K-2. I went to Wal-Mart and picked up a tablet to use as a
guideline. The ages given on it were K-2 and it was the size
you'll find I've created these sheets in. Today I went to a teacher
supply store in North Little Rock and found it to be way off. I'll
get some more online at a smaller size soon.
In the Links area you'll find a new and "intellectual" section has
been added. Silly has to add her own input and when she found the
links I'd put online, she had to create her own list. So, underneath
the tree is a picture of a cat that you can click on and see just what
she thinks is appropriate material to assist you educators. (I
wonder if she realizes that it's mostly humans who visit this page
and not felines?)
This time I remembered to keep track of how many links were added to
each section. While this is by far anywhere from being complete,
there are enough links online you should be able to find some
resource information that is useful. This week the additions were:

With the recent earthquake I was thinking of choosing links that are
related to weather or geology. Then I remembered that car (you
remember, the one that creates g-forces with the takeoff) and thought
maybe I should include links on Auto Mechanics. I chose geology.
With my touch, that car will break down again and once more I'll have
that for a choice of topic; hopefully, long before I have the
opportunity to mention earthquakes.
